Today we have registered our team into Helsinki Challenge 2014. This is the problem we want to solve:

We want to create an application that is an easy-to-use tool for teachers to create individual visually inspiring learning paths. Teachers have the ability to share and explore learning paths created by other teachers or pedagogical experts. Learning paths can include e.g. customized exercises, learning material and tests that support formative assessment and self-evaluation. Teachers are the best experts of what individual students needs are in one’s own classroom. That is why teachers, not companies or publishers, should decide how the learning paths are constructed.

Today one of the biggest problems with learning platforms or applications is that they are too complicated to use, cost too much or licensing deals are unsatisfactory. Also teachers have too little power to customize them to suit ones learning environment or individualized learning needs. Exercises are usually only for drilling and don’t support problem based, socio-constructivistic or explorative learning. We want to create something different – a free, simple application that is a joy to use. It builds up from the roots – from the needs of a classroom and its students. Individual teachers creating individual learning paths that everyone can benefit on.
